Since the Easterns Union was formed in 1998, Benoni Northerns Junior Cricket has taken more overall league wins than any other club, including the most league wins for SL, A and B leagues.
This is just absolutely great to see that over the years that everything that has been done for Junior cricket has paid off, even though we do not chase league wins and just want the boys to play cricket and enjoy the game we still achieve the results.
We also walked away with 5 league wins in the 2016-17 season out of 11 teams first half and 9 in the second half.
It is with the great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Tebogo Mafolo, Committee member of the Tembisa Cricket Club. She sadly passed away on Thursday, 6 July 2017 after a short illness.
Mrs. Tebogo Mafolo was the Chairperson of Tembisa Mini Cricket Cricket for several years. In her tenure as chairperson, the committee was awarded and recognised for three years in a row as the Mini Cricket Committee of the Year. She was a foot soldier of Mini Cricket and was very passionate about the programme. She was then elected as the chairperson of Tembisa Cricket Club and stepped down in 2016.
Mrs. Mafolo always had a smile on her face and when it involved sports and cricket in particular, she never shied away from the task at hand. Tebogo will be missed by all her colleagues, fellow coaches and most of all, her learners and cricket players.
On behalf of the President, Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Eastern Cricket, we want to express our most sincere condolences to the family and friends during this difficult time. May the gates of heaven open up to reveal strength and comfort in your time of trials and sorrow and may God comfort you.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, 12 July at Mashemong Primary School, Tembisa at 12h00 and the funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 15 July 2017 in Norkem Park.
Dear Parent and Members
The 2017/2018 Junior Trials are scheduled for Saturday 26 August and Sunday 27 August 2017 and will take place at the Benoni Northerns nets as follows:
It is with the great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Mr. Andrew Grobler, Committee member of the EJCCA. Andrew sadly passed away on Sunday night.
On behalf of the President, Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Eastern Cricket, we want to express our most sincere sympathies to the family during this difficult time.
Andrew Grobler was a valued member of Eastern Cricket and Eastern Junior Cricket in particular. He was a remarkable man and known by everyone at Eastern Cricket as a man who understood the meaning of the word "team”. For those of us that had the privilege of calling him "friend" outside of work, we were humbled by his kindness, his compassion to everyone around him and his love for cricket.
Andrew will be greatly missed and everyone here is saddened by his death. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
The funeral arrangements of the late Mr. Andrew Grobler will be communicated to all as soon as available.
Help on of our members, Alicia Smith-Harding, go to Dubai to compete at the Indoor World Series.
My Daughter is Alicia. She is 16 and has been chosen for the South African side for indoor cricket World Series to be held in Dubai in September this year. This is the second time she is representing South Africa. Last time was in 2015 and she went to Australia. Whilst on tour her father was involved in a very serious car accident. He was in ICU for two months and has not been the same since the accident. It is a miracle that he is alive. Alicia never stopped playing cricket all this time even though it has been very challenging. She played for Eastern Gauteng Outdoor Team last year for the third year and Captained the Under 16 Side. She plays outdoor cricket for her school-Benoni High(Senior Player of the year). She plays outdoor for Benoni Northerns Ladies side(Best Bowler for the Year). She also plays the super league indoor Ladies side and also for mixed social as well as for South Africa. So she is a busy girl. When she was chosen I refused to tell her that she could not go as she has worked so hard to get her, even with all the challenges.
I have already done one indoor Funday. I am doing another two fundraisers and was wondering if you would be interested in assisting at all.
*We are doing Barnyard Sunday the 30th of July. Doors open at 11.30, show starts at two. The show is called Big Top Rock and the price per ticket is R190.00. I need to buy at least fifty tickets as this is a fundraiser.
Lastly I am asking if any Company Owners would like to donate any amount of money as a donation towards her trip. With Alicia not being a BEE player it makes it very difficult to get any donations so I am asking if anyone would like to donate any amount. I still need to raise over twenty five thousand Rand and that does not include her spending money. I can give you a letter for the money donated and a receipt which is tax deductible.
